چکیده
Objective: to investigate the antimicrobial effects of toothpastes containing bioactive surface pre-reacted glass particles (S-PRG) on S. mutans biofilms adherence, initial colonization and maturation. Material Methods: a reference UA 159 clinical (SM6) strain were used. Bovine enamel specimens randomly allocated into groups (n=5): 0%; 1%; 5%; 20%; 30% S-PRG; positive control dentifrice (NaF+triclosan); negative (distilled water). For biofilm development, samples placed in 24-well plate artificial saliva (4h), followed by adding 1mL saliva, BHI broth 225uL suspension. Treatments with applied previously or after 4h 24h formation. Samples incubated for 48h at 37°C 5%CO2 was detached seeded Petri dishes determining number viable cells. Data analyzed ANOVA Tukey test (5%). Results: significantly lower microorganisms’ adherence (p<0.05) obtained all S-PRG toothpastes, similar results NaF+triclosan SM6 20 30%S-PRG exhibiting higher inhibition effect than NaF+Triclosan UA159. Antibacterial early-stage also observed groups, but not superior toothpaste. mature biofilm, effective potential only strain, control. Conclusion: experimental inhibit growth activity, being promising agents prevent cariogenic development. KEYWORDS Biofilm; Dental enamel; Giomer; Streptococcus mutans, S-PRG.

Adherence of Streptococcus mutans and Adsorption of Salivary Protein to Resin Composites Containing S-PRG Fillers
The purpose of this study was to measure the amount of adsorption of various salivary proteins to a resin composite having various amounts of surface pre-reacted glass-ionomer (S-PRG) fillers, and to make a comparative study of the adherence of S. mutans to the resin composite covered by various salivary proteins. We experimentally produced resin composites (S-PRG resin) having the basic compos...

متن کاملEffect of Fluoride-Containing Toothpastes on Enamel Demineralization and Streptococcus mutans Biofilm Architecture.
This study aimed to explore the effect of fluoridated toothpastes on biofilm architecture and enamel demineralization in an in vitro biofilm model. Streptococcus mutans was grown on enamel and treated with slurries of commercial toothpastes, containing SnF2 or NaF. Water and chlorhexidine were used as negative and positive controls, respectively. The developed biofilms were imaged and enamel de...
متن کاملEffect of S-PRG Eluate on Biofilm Formation and Enzyme Activity of Oral Bacteria
Recently, the antibacterial activity of a composite resin containing prereacted glass ionomer (S-PRG) filler was revealed. We examined the effect of an S-PRG eluate on various biologic activities of Streptococcus mutans and Porphyromonas gingivalis. Adherence ability of S. mutans was evaluated by microtiter plate assay; protease and gelatinase activities of P. gingivalis were examined by synthe...
متن کاملS. mutans biofilm model to evaluate antimicrobial substances and enamel demineralization.
The aim of this study was to validate a model of S. mutans biofilm formation, which simulated 'feast-famine' episodes of exposure to sucrose that occur in the oral cavity, showed dose-response susceptibility to antimicrobials and allowed the evaluation of substances with anticaries potential. S. mutans UA159 biofilms were grown for 5 days on bovine enamel slabs at 37 degrees C, 10% CO2. To vali...
